The Schools in TANNA

'Lenakel Community Christian School'
The school is located near Lenakel, on Tanna Island. Its significant facilities include senior schooling and boarding facilities for students who would otherwise walk long hours to the school each day. Students at Lenakel CCS can study to year 13.

The Lenakel area is a small town centre with basic shops, surrounded by several villages. Tanna offers very little permanent employment, so the main source of income comes from markets or casual work when it can be found.

Check Blog entries through 2009 for vocational training developments.

'NorthGate Community Christian School'
The school is in the isolated north of Tanna, and is the only option for education within a three hour walk. The school is an essential part of a wider community development program (see NorthGate Project). Boarding facilities help families whose children would otherwise walk several hours each day to school. Students can study to year 9 at NorthGate.

'Alofa Community Christian School'
The school is situated in central North Tanna. Pioneered by a graduate of the NorthGate Christian Leaders Training Centre to answer the education needs in his village, the school reaches children from cargo cult and ‘custom’ villages. In 2009 CCSV has taken the school under its umbrella to assist with administration and development in this poor community.

'Kumahau Community Christian School'
The school is in the beautiful village of Kumahau, in the south of Tanna. The only source of income in the region being from the markets, parents have little chance of raising the money needed for school education. The Kumahau community also runs its own Vocational Training Centre, teaching basics in carpentry, agriculture and mechanics. We hope to be able to help with this program in the future and provide our students and the community with much needed job skills.
